Happy Holidays everyone 2012 will be here before you know it! I've been on a real art grind in 2011 and no doubt in 2012 I'll be grinding even harder! I've seen a lot of great art and met a lot of awesome, inspiring artists this year! I'm also looking forward to getting 1ssue#1 of my comic book completed in 2012 and ready for the web. Got some big things planned for next year and even bigger things planned down the road. I hope 2011 has been a productive year for you and I hope 2012 will be even better as well!

Here's a new Charater design from my comic book. I completed the picture using pencil and ink, then scanned/digitally traced in Adobe Illustrator and finally colored using Adobe Photoshop!

What's good everyone?

Can't believe it's November already. This has certainly been a busy and productive year for me and hopefully for you as well! Just wanted to post a new character design from my graphic novel i'm working on. I will start posting pages in the new year so you'll definitely want to be on the look out for that! Latest commission job for an actress/model. I went through a few rough sketches for the costume before completing the final design. Next, I worked on the final pencil and inks then scanned and colored the drawing in Adobe Photoshop. Lastly, I found the background and blood spills on the internet then manipulated/changed the colors to get the desired effect.
I'm pretty impressed with the final result.

A good friend of mine on DA surprised me by coloring this picture I did of Ryu from Street Fighter. Here did an awesome job and again totally surprised me. The original picture I drew was a rough sketch done 1n 2009 and can be found in my November blog archive. Here is a link to my buddy on DA. Happy New Year!!!
2011 is going to be BIG for me!!!! I have a lot of plans for the new new year including finishing up issue#1 of my new graphic novel as well as some other projects that should be coming out this later this year. I hope 2011 will be great for you other artists as well.

Some random sketches from my portfolio. I usually like to sketch using a regular black pen. I like the loose feel of sketching in pen because I am able to sketch/draw gestures, forms or shapes very easily. Sometimes I will scan & add color to my sketches just to add some personality.

It's been a busy 2 months for me working on my graphic novel and all but I'm finally back. It's always good to come back and see all the other artists out there inspiring others and sharing their work.

Anyways, here is some random artwork from my portfolio. The 1st Illustration is was for a commission job I did for Panda Express. The 2nd sketch is one of my old character designs from a previous project. Both were originally done in pencil then inked using rapidiograph pens & black markers.

Feel free to give me some feedback, I always appriciate it.

Here's an Illustration for an idea I pitched a while back for an "adult" animated cartoon. The story focuses on two female super-heroines fighting to save their city from the forces of evil. It's still one of my favorites Illustrations from my portfolio.

Check out this recent
Character design of my girlfriend. It came out a lot better than expected. Started off in pen/pencil and was colored & finished in Photoshop.

Here's a recent sketch I did of Ryu from Street Fighter. This was done in all black pen & marker (sharpee to be exact). I'm actually more of a King Of Fighters fan myself, but I like how this sketch turned out so I thought I would share it with you guys anyway : )

My latest Throwback picture from back in the day. I originally completed this picture in 2005. I had this cool idea in my head of showing some local kids hanging out in the city waiting at the bus stop. This was originally an exercise in coloring backgrounds. However, it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I started off drawing everything in pencil, then inked the drawing in black & white. Next I scanned the image in Photoshop & added the colors last. I also used a photo of a some inner city for reference because I wanted the colors to have that kind of grungy, urban-type feel to it.

Here's another throwback from back in the day. This was one of the original concept posters I created for a comic book I was working on back in 2003. Thanks to video games I played like "Street fighter" or the "King Of Fighters" I was so influenced by some of the characters and stories in the games that I ended up created my own martial arts based fighting story.

Old school character illustration I did back in 2003 of Elc from the video game "Arc The Lad". Elc was easily one of my favorite characters in that game. It was really fun to draw and color this design. The picture was originally drawn in pencil, scanned, & then colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Here's a pen sketch I did the other day form a picture of a girl I know. She was on her summer vacation & had a picture taken of her sitting on some rocks surrounded by water. Anyways, I liked her picture so much that I decided to sketch my own version. It's fun every now & then to just get out there & draw / sketch something on the spur of the moment. It's like "freestyling" in hip-hop.--Straight off the top of the head!

Here's another oldie but goody. I originally created this character for a story/comic book I was working on back in 2003/2004. I later revisited the character design back in 2006 & created this background for it. I think It turned into a cool Illustration. I came across the illustration recently & decided to post on my blog. The story/project is on hold right now but who knows maybe one day I'll go back and finish it. In the meantime enjoy!

Okay, so here another space themed Illustration i've been working on. I really love the look of space fantasy, sci-fi, the future, etc. I just basically wanted to have some fun and create a cool futuristic-looking space chick. probably form earth or some other far-away planet.--(Hence the blue hair!) The illustration is entirely my own, but the spaceship & background was copy & pasted from other sources. The background was put together from various stock-photos of outer space. The space ship I actually copy & pasted from this Anime poster I saw for a something called "Koshika". I just basically manipulated the color scheme a bit, added some glow effects and BAM! Made it into my own. I really like how this Illustration turned out though. Definitely a fun diversion from working on my graphic novel.

Here is the original drawing. Started off in pencil, then I hand-inked the drawing & scanned it into Illustrator. (Art Tip)--For those who don't know, Adobe Illustrator CS2--(What I use) has a function that will trace/re-trace your drawing using various styles--(Blck & white, Ink drawing, sketch, comics, photo, etc). I tend to like to trace my drawing using the comic option. Illustrator gives me even better, cleaner lines than Photoshop. As you can also see, some of the lines a little broken up, but that can be fixed later on in Illustrator. Also, once i've finished tracing the drawing, I can easily import the picture into Photoshop for coloring.

It's been a couple of months since I posted some new artwork, but I'm back again. Hope my fellow artists out there are doing well and staying productive.

This just a quick piece I put together. Well, actually I started out by working on the character designs and well, it just kinda turned into this finished piece. This is actually a concept for an animated cartoon that I hope to pitch one day. Truthfully, I think I'm still in Sci-Fi mode after having seen Star Trek for the second time.

Here are two alternate versions of the main Characters. I usually create 2/3 different versions for my characters just to have other options to choose from.

I have a thing for blue-skinned aliens, but thought it would be better to go with the orange-skinned version because it adds a better contrast between the 2 main characters.

I saw this photo of model Jessica White and had to do a sketch of her. I really liked how the light was used on the original photo.

Believe it or not, I sketched this picture using a ball point pen. I actually prefer sketching in pen as opposed to pencil sometimes. I guess I'm kinda weird like that.

This is a sketch of my main rival character in my hip-hop graphic novel. I really enjoy drawing this character because it allows me the chance to play around with perspective and make him dynamic.

I wanted to create a Rapper /thug that looked strong and intimidating--(Kind of like Sagat from Street Fighter). His design was inspired by characters like 50 Cent, M.O.P. Xzibit, to name a few.
But since my story takes place in the future his style had to look somewhat futuristic but still rugged for the streets.

Since it's Obama's Inauguration / MLK holiday and all, I thought It would be cool to post something to go along with the spirit of the occasion. This is an older illustration from years ago, but I thought it would be cool to use it anyway.

This isn't a picture of MLK, but mainly an image of what someone like MLK and President Obama represents...A Community Leader. It's just simply a picture of a Community Leader speaking to the people along with his wife. Again, this Illustration was created years ago, so I didn't have any particular person in mind when i created it.

This is a redesign of my main character for my story. I wanted to change his style up a bit from the previous one (See my September blog for reference). This story takes place in the year 2035, so I wanted his clothes to have a l slightly more futuristic hip-hop look to them. My inspiration for his design was based off some of my favorite Rappers in the game right now such as Nas, and Lupe Fiasco.

I really love this design. She's a News Reporter covering a few of the Rappers and major events happening in my story. She's basically like "Roxy or Free" from 106 & park mixed with "LA-LA" from her TRL days.

Another character design for my graphic novel. I wanted to create an intellectual, charismatic, business-type character who works in the music industry. I also wanted wanted him to have a slightly futuristic style to him. He will act as the opposite of my Big-Boss character down below.

This character was inspired by various hip-hop Moguls such as Sean"Puffy Combs, Russel Simmons and Sean-Jay-Z Carter.

Here is a final design sketch for one of the Rapper/Henchmen characters in my story. He's the big-guy who doesn't talk much, but let's his size do the talking for him. I really like how his final design came out.

I wanted to add a female Rapper to my story so after a series of preliminary designs I came up with this final character design.
Her belt houses her microphone kinda like a holster for a gun.

She's cute and sexy in the b-girl kind of way, but still can be taken seriously.

This 2nd concept design for my DJ character. The story takes place in the future so I wanted to give him some sleek looking turn-tables. I also added some glowing lights, glowing-discs and flashy color panels to enhance his futuristic design.

The other character-face serves as the DJ's sidekick and computer buddy.

Here is my latest character from my upcoming graphic novel. This guy is basically the "big-boss character" aka the" main bad guy" in my story. I really enjoy drawing his character and basically wanted to create someone who could have an intimidating presence but still look cool.

Two more characters from my upcoming graphic novel. This one here is a hip-hop DJ. I decided to make him asian so I could diversivy more of the characters in my graphic novel. Hip-hop has such a following in other countries like Japan, so I think this character fits in well for my story.

This is one of the early concept illustrations for my current graphic novel that i'm working on. I illustrated the character in pencil, added inks, then scanned the picture and colored it in photoshop. I'm a big fan of japanese animation so I like to use their cell-shaded style for colors and shading in my pictures.
